Chennai: DMK president and former Chief Minister M Karunanidhi, who recently underwent change of tracheostomy tube, has developed sudden illness from last night.

According to sources, the nonagenarian is suffering from allergy and a team of doctors from a private hospital is taking care of him. “There is nothing to worry about his health, he is stable,” added sources.

Last week, Karunanidhi was admitted to Kauvery Hospital in Chennai.

A statement from the hospital said 'Karunanidhi has been admitted so his tracheostomy tube can be changed.'

The DMK chief was hospitalised in December 2016 to undergo a tracheostomy procedure to optimise breathing.

The procedure was necessitated by the fact that he had breathing difficulty caused by a throat and lung infection.
