Dentists to use Metro trains to educate passengers

Chennai: On the occasion of Oral Hygiene Day on 1 August, CMRL in association with Meenakshi Ammal Dental College will be conducting an oral hygiene screening and awareness camp at CMRL Admin Building and also in Metro trains.

A team of 25 doctors headed by director of PG studies at Meenakshi Ammal Dental College, Dr Jaideep Mahendra will be conducting the camp at CMRL Admin Building at Koyambedu for the CMRL staff on 1 August from 9 am to 1 pm.

On the same day, the doctors will also be travelling on the Metro trains from 8 am to 10.30 am to educate passengers about the significance of oral hygiene. Free samples of products needed to maintain oral hygiene will be distributed for all staff and public attending the screening camp on the metro trains, a press release said.

Every year, 1 August is celebrated as Oral Hygiene Day to commemorate the birth anniversary of the doyen of Indian society of Periodontics and the founder of the Indian Society of Periodontology, Dr GB Shankwalkar.

The primary objective of this day is to spread the message of oral hygiene and to curb the worrisome trend of neglect, which is one of the main causes of dental diseases.
