Salem/Chennai: Chief Minister Edappadi K Palaniswami today said it was after his prayers at Tirupati that the Mettur dam reached its full capacity.

Addressing mediapersons at Salem airport today, he said it is not possible to construct dam in Cauvery as the path in which it passes is a flat terrain.

He further said all necessary measures will be taken to ensure that the water is stored.

He added that the eight-way lane project between Chennai and Salem will be beneficial to people who are living in the areas.

"Around 95 per cent land acquisition work has been completed," he said.

This morning, Palaniswami left for Salem, his native, through a flight from Chennai. He was accorded a warm welcome in Salem by people from various walks of life.
