Chennai: Chettinad Vidyashram in RA Puram conducted the 10th edition of its Model United Nations conference (CVMUN) recently.
The event was held from 13 to 15 July in the presence of the school correspondent Meena Muthiah, principal Amudha Lakshmi, social activist K Abdul Ghani and chief guest - Deputy Consul-General of Japan, Hiroko Taniguchi.
Following the speeches by the school principal and correspondent, the inaugural address of CVMUN-2018 was delivered by its secretary-general Aaryyan Aathreya and director-general Alifiya Olia.
Students were divided into nine committees - United Nations High Commission for Refugees (UNHCR), United Nations Office on Drugs and Crime (UNODC), United Nations Security Council (UNSC), Special Political And Decolonization Committee (SPECPOL), African Union (AU), League of Nations (LoN), The Trilateral Committee, Continuous Crisis and Conflict Committee (CCCC), International Press Corps (IPC).
The three-day event saw students showcasing their diplomatic skills through debates on social, economic, political, and global issues of various countries.
Shaping creative minds, cumulating conscious solutions and preparing future leaders were the main goals of the event.
The CVMUN serves as a platform for discussing worldwide issues and coming up with innovative solutions from young minds, said a statement from the school.
