From late last night to the wee hours of today, the world witnessed the longest lunar eclipse of the 21st century.

The lunar eclipse awed many onlookers who were eagerly waiting to witness the breathtaking view of the moon. The so-called blood moon was visible in many places, including Chennai.

Sources said from 11.45 pm, people were staring at the sky and the white moon was playing hide-and-seek with the clouds in Chennai.

The moon which is usually small, appeared larger in size around midnight and slowly shifted colour from white to orange-red, and later turned to bright red during the wee hours of Saturday.

Children and elders thronged Birla Planetarium in the city while some watched it from their house terrace.
