Chennai: S Kavitha of Dr Thomas Road is a true delight to APJ Abdul Kalam's vision that advocates youth to dream and then realise it.

Very recently, she bagged doubles and singles title in National level tournament conducted by Tennikoit Association of India.

A class nine student at Guntur Subbiah Girls Higher Secondary School, Venkatanarayana Road, she is trained by Anuradha, coach and teacher of the school. What began at class six has elevated her to national levels, thanks to her religious practice. Narrating the circumstances that led her to sports, Kavitha began saying, ‘My house is situated near the canal in Dr Thomas Road and we friends play different games during our childhood.’

My dreams became a reality when I entered high school stream at Guntur Subbiah School where my teacher Anuradha selected me to play tennikoit. She trains me every morning and evening sparing school hours which accentuated my skills,’ she added.

Kavitha’s family background is not sound enough to support her sports dreams financially.

Yes, our school management supported me in every stage and provided nutritious food during practice sessions. Both my coach and principal

Rajalakshmi madam made me attend the daily training without fail all these years,’ pointed out Kavitha who is also good at academics.

‘Kavitha scores good marks in the subjects and we never compromise on her academic interests,’ opined Rajalakshmi.

Commenting on the achievement, Anuradha, her coach said ‘Like Kavitha, I train few others on the game and who also dedicate and prove themselves showing good results.’

Interestingly, she bagged doubles title in the National tennikoit tournament conducted last year by School Games Federation of India and this year, she fetched both singles and doubles titles.

Having reached national levels, what is her next dream?

I have a big dream of playing international matches and bring glory to the country,’ charmingly said Kavitha before joining her group offriends in the school.
