Chennai: Chennai Metro Rail Limited, as part of their women empowerment initiatives, have introduced all women Metro stations at Shenoy Nagar and Koyambedu.

While Shenoy Nagar station will be handled only by women from today, Koyambedu Metro Station will be made into an all-woman station from tomorrow.

A total of 15 women staff will be handling the Shenoy Nagar Metro Station in two shifts. Station management activities like ticketing, customer interactions and housekeeping will be done only by women, CMRL said today.

There are already many facilities and special features for women in Metro stations. CMRL has provided priority areas for special needs passengers and special coaches for women passengers in all Metro trains.

To address safety and security concerns of women passengers, CCTV cameras are placed in stations and inside trains to constantly monitor passenger activity throughout the journey, said CMRL in a statement.

In addition, passengers can also talk to the train operator in case of an emergency.
