Big Sale because of BS-III engine

Chennai: You might have seen crowd in a ration shop or a bank but have you ever seen a crowded automobile showroom? The whole country witnessed the unusual scene today as it turned out to be the last day for the clearance sale of BS III vehicles following a Supreme court order.

For the first time in India, a discount of up to Rs 22,000 was offered on two wheelers. The situation was no different at four wheelers showrooms too. . The manufacturers and dealerships had no other option but to clear all the stocks of BS III vehicles for cheap prices following the strict implementation of BS IV emission norms by Supreme Court from 1 April, Many outlets were open throughout the night in the city yesterday, busy selling vehicles.

Speaking to News Today, a sales employee of TVS showroom at Tambaram-Velachery Main Road, said, "We have sold most of the stocks on Thursday itself and we have only fi ve Scootys and one XL remaining. We are reducing Rs 2,000 on both."

A sales employee at a Honda showroom in Chrompet, said, "We had sold all the BS III bikes and only 15 units of the Navi are left. We are selling it for Rs 30,000. We have to produce the sale of deed to the RTO by today itself" Sivaramakrishnan, a resident of Rajeshwari Nagar, Selaiyur, said, "I had booked a Dream CD 110 for Rs 33,500 on-road. The showroom had reduced the price by almost Rs 20,000. Extremely happy about the purchase, which brought great savings."

There are also certain rumours being floated on the internet that BS III vehicles can't be used for long. But neither the Supreme Court nor the National Green Tribunal has issued any notification as such.

Rates of 'interest'

While Honda offered up to Rs 22,000 as discount, TVS gave Rs 20,150, Hero Rs 12,500, Bajaj Rs 12,000 and free insurance and Suzuki Rs 5,000 with a free helmet Though car manufacturers didn't reveal the exact number, sources said, discounts up to Rs 1,00,000 have been offered on cars.
