Chennai: Sri Sathya Sai Bala Vikas Association in Anna Nagar in the city has completed 25 years of service to society.

It conducts free classes for children in the locality and teached them moral values through Vedas, bhajans and Indian mythological stories.

The association has also undertaken many activities to benefit the underprivileged over the years.

Guru Uma Krishna Mohan, from Royal Enclave in Anna Nagar, has been conducting these free classes, teaching slokas, Baghavad Gita, Vedas, Ramayanam, Mahabharatham and bhajans to children in her residence.

She and her husband, Krishna Mohan, have dedicated their lives for Bala Vikas and conduct the classes as honorary services to the children of the area.

"‘I teach the children the meaning behind the verses, too, so that they understand what they are reading and reciting. The Vedas, bhajans and stories impart good morals, systematic habit and discipline in children and will help them achieve their full potential. Till now, five batches have passed out of our institute,’" she says.

Krishna Mohan adds, ‘"Upon completion of 16 years in our class, diploma certificates are also handed out to children by the Sri Sathya Sai Seva Organisation. Our students have gone on to become doctors, engineers and scientists."

Apart from this, every month, the couple also personally distributes food for 20/25 underprivileged people. The samithi conducts free eye scans, medical checkups and several children welfare schemes on Sai Baba’s birthday that falls on 23 November.’

The children are divided into three groups for the classes - from ages 5-9, 9-12 and 12-16. The classes are conducted on Saturdays (from 11.30 am to 1 pm), Fridays and Wednesdays (from 5.30 pm to 7 pm).
