Artists conduct classes for govt school kids in Chennai area

Chennai: A free art workshop was conducted at Government Higher Secondary School in Mugalivakkam by several artists from Porur in the city.

More than 100 children took part in it. Artist T Surendar and cartoonist Ramakrishnan have been conducting such workshops in many government schools in order to develop children’s interest in the field of art.

According to them, “Every child has their own inner talent. It should be brought out at the right time.”

In the workshop, the artists teach students how to draw human figures, character development by cartoons in a simple way. “Children show interest and learn to draw cartoons quickly. They enjoy and are thrilled to draw characters,” say the artists.

Surendar, explains the fundamental shapes, parent shapes, forming, etc. “At the end of each workshop, a Q&A session is conducted. This enables students to improve their creative talents.”

“What we teach is just a beginning. We are planning to teach stick drawings, cartoon anatomies, advance sketching, spot sketching, pencil shading, perspectives, creative landscape, 3D, etc,” he adds.

“We found that there are extraordinary artistic talent among students and we encourage them to draw regularly,” say the duo.
