If Azhagiya Theeyae show-cased his potential, Radhamohan lost considerable ground in Ponniyin Selvan. Picking his threads again in Mozhi, the director has established an identity of his own. Sticking to his idea of enlarging a simple theme, he has struck it rich.
As if he owed it to producer Prakash Raj, vindicating the decision of the versatile actor. Jothika's character was borne out of his personal experience. 'The young girl in our colony was deaf and dumb. She never emerged out of her shell but there was so much to learn from her. From the movie angle, had to pad up the necessary ingredients but nothing out of my boundaries.'
Of the convincing ways in the body language of Jothika, the director said it was perfectly planned. The periodical visits to Ability Foundation gave him an insight of the prevalent mind of the disabled. To get that picture-right, we had the services of one Vijaya right through the shoot.'
Clear in his thoughts, Radhamohan said he is at home in ventures bringing to light the virtues of every human being. 'There is a humanness in each one of us, not seen by a naked eye. The medium is a privilege to display the human emotions - the grey areas cannot be helped.'
Not forgetting the humour angle, did he go overboard shaping the M S Bhaskar character? 'It was a figment of my imagination but the diversion was necessary. Plumping for Brahmanandam was a ploy to bring the surprise element for the audience. It paid off.'
One knew of the versatility of Prakash Raj but his flair for comedy was an unknown factor. Not taking any credit there, Radhamohan said he was aware of the man's range, having closely associated with him over the years. 'Jothika was my only choice the moment script got the flash signal. Those big and expressive eyes struck in a telling fashion. Such a delight to work in a unit hungry for success. You could see the team work in every frame.'
That is the man for you - unassuming off screen but menacing when he is on charge. He is not against action fares but his cup of tea is different.
The batteries are getting charged for the next.
