In more ways than one, Uyir turned out to be a path breaking film. The movie had its share of controversies but in the end, director Saami and actress Sangeetha walked away with all accolades.
Now that the hue and cry has died down, Saami is on the job of shaping Mirugam, saga of a man and his brutal ways in a dry area of South Tamilnadu nearly four decades ago.
Of the real life happening, Saami said 'the man was so crude to stab his pregnant wife as the culmination of his uncouth ways. When you work on such a script, not only you are motivated but do the damnedest to keep the level of realism.'
On the surprise choice of a greenhorn in the all-important role, Saami felt 'a known face would have been a giveaway. Again, the character was important and not really the actor who donned that. Adhi (son of Telugu director Ravirajabini Shetty) was just the face I was scouting for long.' Padmapriya plays the female lead, supported by Banuchander, Kanja Karuppu and Sona.
The duo of Sabesh-Murali are the musical composers for the movie produced by Karthik Jai. Cinematography is by Ramnath Shetty.
Shooting which began in Ayirkulam village (near Madurai) is on at a brisk pace.
