AAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAA

Making waves

        Haricharan
Director Haricharan is one of the new additions to Tamil cinema. His maiden directorial venture Thoovanam in the company of Newton, won him rave reviews.

Deviating from the usual commercial format, the movie dwells into real-life incidents. With a team of young artistes and skilled technicians like Madhu Ambat (cinematography) and Krishnamurthy (art director) around, Haricharan rendered a film that was an insight into the psyche of the present day youth.

        A tete-a-te with director Haricharan:

Q: Are you happy with the outcome in Thoovanam?

A: Yes. I managed to bring out on screen what I visualised. It is a blend between classical and commercial cinema. I would call it a retro classic. We have deviated a lot from the usual commercial elements in Tamil cinema, but we have added some new ones.

Q: How did you conceive the storyline?

A: We wanted a good script before the shooting commenced. I was confident that a team of good technicians and a strong script would work out well. The crux of the storyline was inspired by real-life incidents.

It narrates in a simple way the story of two young people who fall in love.

Their relationship and the feelings between them have an impact on the lives of their family members and friends and what happens as a result of this forms the core of the film.

It has all the ingredients of a love story but with no violence.

Q: How did you convince Madhu Ambat to work as cinematographer for the movie?

A: Madhu Ambat is a real talent. When I completed the script, I decided that I should approach Ambat. He went through the entire script and immediately agreed to work on the project.

Similarly, driven by the script, veteran art director Krishnamurthy agreed to work. Half the battle was won once we formed a team of skilled technicians.

Q: How did you choose your star cast?

A: I saw Adhitya playing his part well in a couple of television serials. He was a promising talent. Similarly I chose other artistes after auditions. I ensured that all those part of the cast should undergo intense rehearsals. Since majority of them were amateurs, they underwent intense training. As a result when the shooting commenced, the scenes were shot without any hassle. They got it right in the first take itself.

        Q: What's your as piration?

A: I would love to churn out movie that throws light on Indian culture. I want to take our rich values and traditions to the international audience.
