MK's story set for film variation

 NT Bureau
Vineeth

The long-forgotten Vineeth will play the lead role in a movie inspired by Chief Minister M Karunanidi's short story Uliyin Osai. A debutant, Illavenil, a popular writer, journalist and a longtime associate of Karunanidhi, is writing the screenplay, dialogues besides directing the short story of Karunanidhi.

Says Illavenil, 'the story is set in the 10th century and is about the romance between a sculptor and a dancer. The film is set against a backdrop of the Tanjore temple, which is a renowned world heritage symbol.'

Ilayaraja has composed seven songs within 24 hours for the movie.'When I approached llayaraja, he asked me what the story was all about. I informed him that it was an adaptation of Karunanidh's Ulyin Osai. He said that it was one of his favourite stories and readily composed the tunes'.

Vineeth, well-versed in classical dance, is playing the lead role and efforts are on to cast Shobana as the female lead.

Kannan is cranking the camera and sets are erected by GK. Produced by Murugesan of Nandini Arts, the movie would go to floors early next month.
