Wrong time for LS elections

Sir,

Initially elections for first four Lok Sabhas were scheduled to be in the month of February after considering very aspects like weather, examinations, crop and others. But later these timings went on changing because of mid-term polls necessitated now resulting elections in severe hot conditions of April-May.

Elections in such odd weather can never provide real verdict of voters because of extremely low voter turn-out. All regular and by-elections to Lok Sabha, State assemblies and local bodies should be held simultaneously in the month of February only.

It can be done in case of State-Assemblies by reducing or extending terms of Assemblies by upto one year. Any by-election or even regular civic or panchayat election may also be held in this ‘election-month’ of February.

It is a biased wrong practice some times by ruling parties when they deliberately distant Lok Sabha and Assembly elections mainly for selfish political interests. However in case of mid-term elections needed for a new Lok Sabha, provision should be for auto reduction or extension term of new Lok Sabha in a manner that next elections may fall due in month of February only.

Dance of democracy

Sir,

India is one of the largest democracies in the world today. The 15th Lok Sabha polls are in full swing. Political parties vie with each other in mud-slinging. It is ridiculous that till now the voter is not sure of his Prime Minister from any party.

Congress says that Manmohan Singh is there choice in the early morning. By noon someone goes over in the media and says Rahul is the PM for future. Poor Dr Singh who can be awarded with a ‘Dancing Doll’ also says Rahul has all the potentials of PM. BJP is equally joking.

They thundered Advani is their PM and not an iota of doubt about that. A few of the senior leaders opine Narednra Modi is the best choice. Suddeenly a lot of choices and it is full of turns and twists in the election drama.

Third Front is suffering from the embarrasement of sort of riches. There seem to be more PMs in waiting than the parties that constitute the so called alternative to Congress and BJP. Really the election scene is gathering wit and jokes.
