Voters in DMK strongman M K Azhagiri’s constituency here had a pleasant surprise when they were given cash midnight last. This raised the hackles of the CPI-(M) and the AIADMK.

Mohan of CPI-(M) is pitted against Azhagiri. At present he is hospitalised owing to some ailment. It is said that the DMK men went door to door distributing money. On learning this,  AIADMK cadres staged a dharna in front of crime branch police office at South Veli Veedhi this morning.

Dindigul MLA Balabharathy led the protest with MP Rajan Chellappa, district secretary Chellur Raj of AIADMK joining him. They staged the protest for over three hours and it created traffic congestion. They demanded action against the DMK men.

Commissioner of Police Nandagopal rushed to the spot and assured action against the miscreants and later the crowd dispersed.
