Relatives of DMK functionary G N R Kumar who was hacked to death at Oorappakam yesterday refused to take the body to the graveyard as none of the DMK Ministers had arrived to pay their last respects.

.
Sensing trouble as a large number of people had gathered to mourn the death of Kumar, a huge posse of police under ADSP Ramesh Kumar Meena had been deployed. About 100 shops in  the locality downed shutters.

After much ado, the relatives took out the funeral procession on GST Road and there was a huge crowd on the stretch which led to a traffic jam. Taking stock of the situation, some of  the policemen told the relatives of the dead to take the body quickly to the graveyard.

This led to an altercation and some in the  procession allegedly hurled stones at the policemen, which eventually forced them to make a mild lathicharge. Two persons were seriously injured in the police action, it was reported.
