Excess fee: Govt restrains colleges

State Higher Education Minister K Ponmudy today said four colleges have been restrained from going ahead with admissions following complaints of excess fees collection.

Participating in the discussion on demand for grants on Higher Education in Assembly, AIADMK MLA C V Shanmugam pointed out that self-financing engineering colleges were collecting excess fees in the name of donation. He specifically brought up the name of  PSG College in Coimbatore, and said,  money collected and students were given receipts He wanted to know what step has the government taken against the college.

Replying to the allegation, Ponmudy said such complaints have been received against four other engineering colleges too and admissions to them will be stopped by Anna University, he said.

Also, the vigilance committee constituted by the State government to look into the complaints on excess fees would visit PSG College, Ponmudy said.
