Describing Marumalarchi Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam (MDMK) headed by Vaiko as a party without the spirit oreal ‘marumalarchi’ (renaissance), Chief Minister and DMK president M Karunanidhi has said that all those who had gone from the DMK to MDMK had realised that only the parent party could bring in a real renaissance.

Welcoming MDMK headquarters secretary K S Radhakrishnan and his supporters into the DMK fold at a function in Chennai yesterday, the Chief Minister said, ‘All those who went to that party expecting a renaissance have been returning to the parent party disappointed as they could not see real marumalarchi happening in the MDMK’. He added: ‘Many a party had become weak in due course of time. But the DMK has been going from strength to strength everyday. It has the capacity to calculate the course of national politics. No force in the country could ignore the role of the DMK in national politics.’ Only on Monday, former AIADMK Minister Anitha R Radhakrishnan, who was expelled from the party, joined the ruling DMK in the presence of Karunanidhi. Addressing the function, Karunanidhi, in a sarcastic tone, thanked the AIADMK leadership for sending able leaders like Radhakrishnan to the DMK fold. Radhakrishnan, who was the Tuticorin district secretary of AIADMK before he was removed from the post and later expelled from the party, joined the DMK along with hundreds of his supporters at DMK headquarters Anna Arivalayam. Considered a powerful leader in Tuticorin district, Radhakrishnan’s move further strengthened the DMK in the southern districts, it is said. Already, top AIADMK leaders like K K S S R Ramachandran and Karuppasamy Pandian from the southern districts had quit the party and joined the DMK. AIADMK supremo J Jayalalithaa had expelled Radhakrishnan from the primary membership of her party for ‘anti-party activities’.
He was first sacked as party’s district secretary and then removed from the party. A day after he was expelled from the party, he resigned his MLA seat. The AIADMK high command had also expelled from party, popular stage artiste and Mylapore MLA S Ve Shekher, for ‘siding’ with the DMK. |
