DMDK president Vijaykant today said the unannounced revision of city bus fare was done with an eye on Lok Sabha elections and also criticised the Tamilnadu Electricity Board for not taking electricity meter readings in houses across the metropolis.

Hoisting his party flag on the occasion of May Day at Koyambedu in Chennai, the actor-turned-politician said that the Tamilnadu Electricity Board had not taken meter readings from houses in April. ‘This has created panic among the people and they feel that the electricity bill will go up after the elections’, he said, adding that these two cases — bus fare cut and failure to take electricity meter readings — would amount to violation of model code of conduct. He also said whether it was necessary to have the DMK government in power as it had failed to bring about a permanent solution to Cauvery, Mullaiperiyar and Palar water disputes. |
