Eyewitness dies many a death

An eyewitness in the last week’s train crash at Vyasarpadi Jiva Nagar Station survived many an ‘accident’ on that fateful day (29 April).

Speaking to News Today, the eyewitness, a 40-year old lorry driver R Murugasen, who was recuperating in Perambur Railway Hospital at present, complained that the hospital authorities told him to get discharged midway.

Narrating how he unexpectedly became an eyewitness in the accident, he said that he had fractured his arm in a bike accident recently and got admitted to Stanley Hospital.

After he was discharged on 28 April, he decided to go to Puthur in Andhra Pradesh for treatment. And he was waiting with his wife M Shanmugavalli (30) on the platform of Vyasarpadi Jiva station to board a train to Central early on 29 April when the accident occured. ‘We all jumped away from the platform, he said, adding that he fell on his injured right arm hurting his left leg.

‘While I was searching for my missing cash totalling Rs 1,800, a policeman  came and told me to go to Perambur police station’, he said. He further said that he was told to get admitted to the Perambur Railway Hospital with the assurance that he would be treated ‘fully’ by a police official. Then he was admitted in the Perambur Railway Hospital.

‘Everything was fine for me at that time but things went awry after various inquiry teams finished its probe in the subsequent days,’ Murugasen said. Now he has been asked to get admitted in some other hospital by the hospital authorities.

When asked Southern Railway Medical Department Chief Medical Director Dr A Elangovan said that R Murugasen already had injuries prior to this incident due to the accident he met with. ‘We did our best in treating him for the ‘injuries’ he sustained in the Jiva Nagar incident’, he added.
