Sir, The proposed boycott of the 2012 Olympics to be held in London by India assumed significance on the grounds that the International Olympic Committee reportedly neglected India's protest against the Dow Chemicals sponsorship in the event. |
| . |
The objection towards Dow chemicals was that that it purchased the Union Carbide Corporation which had a major role to play in the horrifying Bhopal Gas Tragedy. But at the same time the sport committee should not be insensitive towards the Bhopal gas tragedy victims and there is no doubt that moral responsiblity dwells on the shoulders of sportsmen as well. Considering that non-participation in the Olympics would deprive the sportsmen of a life time endeavour, a formula should be evolved and thereby the Indian participants must wear a black arm-band as a protest and participate in the Olympics.
