.
The Congress Core Committee will meet later today to finalise a stand on Telangana issue as the discussions within the party are said to be over.
.

This even as Telangana Congress MPs promise to intensify their agitation and even ministers from Andhra Pradesh have warned the central leadership of worse times ahead.

Senior Congress leader Pallam Raju had said last week, 'This agitation has taken the state backwards and people are sceptical about it.'

On Monday, Congress will have to decide whether it can announce a separate state of Telangana. Problem is the worry that this could trigger off similar demands and also embarrass ally Mamata Banerjee who recently concluded Gorkha accord in an attempt to avoid Gorkhaland.

Chances are that there could be a statement announcing the intent and the need for a second state reorganisation committee will also be discussed.

The immediate priority is to get the protest off the streets and also prevent opposition having yet another handle against the government.
