(The Prestige)
Based on Christopher Priest's novel, famed film-maker Christopher Nolon unravels a mysterious story of two magicians whose rivalry is unmatched for the discerning eye. In the urge to get one better than the other, each magician comes out with a bagful of tricks to unsettle the other.
Deceit, jealousy and stooping to an all-time low, the two try all the tricks under the Sun, save for the strangling act. And for the near and dear ones of the two, life is not the same again, looking for every means to sort out the issue, having shot to menacing proportions.
The fiercome competitors, played adroitly by Huge Jackman and Christian Bale, see the imminent threat from the time they first meet. Both carry the tag of the ones capable of going the distance. Set against the backdrop of London, the magician's wand and the length he could go to achieve the odds is well brought out by the director.
The exceptional cast includes two-time Oscar winner Michael Caine, Scarlett Johansson and David Bowie. Director of Photography Wally Pfister evidently had a lot of work to do.
