(Parzania)
Parsis are a minority lot. Caught between two religions, they are a hapless and harried lot during communal riots. Inspired by a real happening, director Rahul Dholakia has done his homework overtime to get his facts right.
Nominated for two National awards, the movie has made its way to the international film festivals. Hit by censor problems, Dholakia had to run from pillar to post to get it released after an inordinate wait of two years. While not taking stance, Dholakia has brought to light the actual facts unflinchingly. Mind boggling are the ways and the acts of the rioters going berserk.
A happy man is Cyrus with a dutiful wife Shernaz, blessed with two lovely children. In the world of Parzania or Parzan, he could not visualise beyond cricket. Enmeshed in that joy is his adorable sister. Life could not have been more peaceful till that painful morning - the aftermath of a fire accident in train taking the life of 58 Hindus.
In a charged ambience, all sorts of wrong messages pollute the minds. It's mayhem at its worst with thousands of Hindus storming into Ahmedabad going berserk. You know who is the target as the Parsi family has to pay the price for living in the Muslim-dominated area.
Amidst all this is an American on the job of unearthing the reasons of the conflicts. Having chosen India as his school and Gandhi as the peach torch, he is an eye witness to the sickening happenings.
People start to question the explanations they are given and a human rights commission is formed. But the stark truth never surfaces. The pain is all the more for the distraught family, in the elusive search of their beloved. The whole effect is the sort to leave you shattered.
