AAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAA

Failed dreams

(Kireedom)

It is not an easy job for a debutant director to handle a weighty subject like Kireedom, a Malayalam which bagged an award for its sensitive theme. It must be said he (director AL Vijay) seems to have passed the litmus test narrating the story in a straightforward manner without any pretentions. Unfortunately, the story that is an oft-repeated one in Tamil cinema takes away all the sheen.

The movie revolves around a small family in which an upright son strives to to realise his father's dream. The lead actor, Ajit, is an aspiring police officer and the events that come between him and his dream form the crux.

Vijay deserves a pat for narrating the father-son bonding in an engrossing way. Yet, it must be said the second half of the film is very predictable.

The scenes begin at Tiruchi, where Raj Kiran, a honest head constable, dreams that his son will become a police officer one day. His son (Ajith) works towards realising his father's ambition.

Raj Kiran is transferred to Kodiyakarai where he encounters local goons. Ajit ends up thrashing the goondas and the baddies are keen to take revenge. The rest is about how Ajit takes on the goons and whether he becomes a police officer or not.

Ajit has done his role with aplomb - as a good son and an aspiring cop.

Raj Kiran, as a doting father, has played his part well. At many places, he reminds one of his role in an earlier film Thavamai Thavamirundhu.

However the real scene-stealer is Trisha, who attempts to woo the hero. She not only looks ravishing on screen but succeeds in adding pep to the romantic scenes.

Vivek plays a minuscule role, while the rest of the cast includes Ravi Kale, Saranya, Sathyan, Manobala, Santhanam.

Thirru's cinematography has captured the images vividly. Music by G V Prakash needs special mention, especially the Akkam Pakkam number.

Had the director only taken care in ensuring that second half was a little crisper, Kireedom would have been a wholesome entertainer.
