She was addressing the gathering after inaugurating the four- day Japanese film festival in the city recently.
She also listed out the various cultural programmes held round-the-year right from Japanese drum festival to lectures by Japanese professors which were aimed at promoting better cultural understanding between the two countries. She said that besides lecture programmes, music concerts and exhibitions would also be held in the month of September and October.
R Veeramani, president of Indo-Japan Chamber of Commerce and Industry said that the Japanese have made a mark in producing quality animation movies. Japan also made its mark on the economic front by overcoming all challenges, he added. V L Indra Dutt, Chairperson, SAARC chamber Woman Entrepreneur Council praised the superior technical knowledge of Japanese that assist in bringing out high quality movies.
S Kannan, president of International Cine Appreciation Forum (ICAF) said that the film festival is held twice a year and the next festival this year would be in the month of October. Writer and director Balu Mahendra and Cine artist Mounica also spoke.
The four-day-Japanese film festival in commemoration of the fiftieth anniversary of Indo-Japan Culture Agreement and the launch of the Indo-Japan Friendship and Indo-Japan Tourism Promotion Year is being organised at the South Indian Film Chamber of Commerce auditorium jointly by the Consulate General of Japan at Chennai, International Cine Appreciation Forum (ICAF) and the Madras Film Society. Starting from 9 July, the film festival would go on till 12 July.
