The Algerian Film Festival got started off with the screening of award-winning, critically-acclaimed film Rachida. In the words of Ambassador of the People's Democratic Republic of Algeria, New Delhi, Noureddine Bardad Dajdj: 'The contemporary film, Rachida (2003) is definitely a gateway to Algeria with its realistic treatment of subjects like terrorism.'
'These films we hope, will
help deepen the ties between India and Algeria. Both Algeria and India
have in common a great cultural heritage and a diverse population,' said
Ambassador Noureddine, after inaugurating the Algerian Film Festival at
the South Indian Film Chamber Theatre yesterday.

tax C R Ravichandran said, 'I am happy to known that Chennaiites will now
get a glimpse into the world of Algeria through these award-winning films.'
The Battle of Algiers by Gillo Pontecorvo and Refusal by Mohamed Bouamari will be screened today at 6.15 pm and 8.15 pm respectively.
A Roof, A Family by Laradji Rabah and Ali in the Country of Mirages will be screened on 6 June at 6.15 pm and 7.45 pm. On the last day i.e. 7 June, Adventures of a Hero by Sudhir Mishra will be screened at 6.30 pm.
First Secretary, Embassy of the People's Democratic Republic of Algeria, New Delhi, Mohamed Yazid Bouzid, Assistant Commissioner of Land Reforms Balasubramanian, Cine actress Revathi, International Cine Appreciation Forum (ICAF) patron B Ramakrishnan, ICAF general secretary E Thangaraj and ICAF president S Kannan were also present. If Rachida the story of a young school teacher's struggle for survival in a riot-torn country is any foretender of the films to follow then Chennai film buffs are in for a good time.
