AAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAA

A bumpy ride

(Urchagam)

Amidst masala movies and commercial cliches, director Ravichandran has tried to dish out a romantic thriller in Urchagam. A rehash of a few English movies, Urchagam begins on a positive note but fizzles out as it progresses.

The director has laced the movie with love and sentiment with some suspense. Sadly, he has missed out on the screenplay.

Nandha has played the lead role well. Unlike his earlier films, he has presented himself in a different way. There is marked improvement in his body language and dialogue delivery. The young man's drive to excel comes across clearly even in the first action sequence - there's energy in every punch.

On her comeback, Sherin oozes with glamour. She is a perfect foil for the role. With her ravishing looks, she manages to fits the bill well. Vivek's humour reminds one of his earlier film Run. But at many places, he doesn't fail to evoke laughter.

Ganesh (Nanda) meets Jency (Sherin), and they become good friends. Ganesh develops an affinity towards Jency and when he goes to confess his love for her, it is too late. Jency decides to marry a London-based NRI Nicky (Dinesh Lamba). But things go worse. Nicky begins to suspect the relationship between Jency and Ganesh's friendship.

Unable to put up with Nicky's torture, Jency walks out on him. And Ganesh comes to her rescue.

The rest is all but a predictable climax in which Ganesh teaches Nicky a lesson. Ranjit Barot, back after a hiatus, has come up with a musical delight. His songs and background score form the backbone of the movie.

Urchagam promises a joyous ride, but fails to sustain the momentum as the story develops.
