Sangeetha's big dream (falling in the ultimate range) is the suffix Kalanidhi attached to her name. Pursuing that in right earnest is the final year student of Business Administration. Backed by her parental support, she is on the job of 'Mission Possible.'
Recipient of annual scholarship for the past five years from the Ministry of HRD, Sangeetha's innate talent had an early acknowledgement from a popular Tamil weekly, on a survey to scout talent. Deemed a child prodigy, Sangeetha had her moments under the Sun in Delhi before the shift to Chennai.
In the music capital of India, her talent has cut across the corners. A disciple of carnatic exponent O S Thyagarajan, she had her initial grooming from Vijaya Srinivasan and T R Subramaniam.
Inculcating the essence of carnatic music, Sangeetha's desire is to include many components and different talas. Adding to her repertoire is the inclusion of keertanas and kritis.
Exploiting the nuances within the meter of thalam bringing the aspect and facet of ragas are a must for Sangeetha. Her finesse is evident in
Neravaal where singers pick one important line of a song and give it a coating. Those are special moments much like her dexterous ways of using new thukdas picking it from varied quarters.
Not getting stuck in a pattern, Sangeetha is all for including lots of Tamil keertanas to go well with the kritis. She has a penchant for Papanasam Sivan and Bharathiar songs. 'In different talas you get to have a heady mix of permutations and combinations,' is her line of reasoning. Including a new raga in her concert (Natakapriya a favourite) is a habit, on surprise lines.
A regular in the carnatic season, Sangeetha touched the double digit mark last time round. Not a yardstick to judge talent banks but the numbers do count while taking stock of the prevalent scenario.
Challenging days are ahead of her - having got a job placement already. A school and college topper with a penchant for writing, her career option has many shades.
Not taking any side in her priority, she is clear in her thoughts. That prefix may be a long way off, but not out of her boundaries.
