Recognising his meritorious service to society, Dr K P Misra, a cardiologist, was awarded with the first Mahan Odia Samman at Chinmaya Heritage Centre here recently.
The award was handed over by Chief Secretary, government of Tamilnadu, L K Tripathi, during a felicitation programme organised by Dr K P Misra Felicitation Committee and The Utkal association of Madras on the eve of departure of Misra to Orissa after a service of three decades in Chennai. His book, 50 fascinating cases in surgery was also released on the occasion.
Speaking at the function,Tripathi said, 'hardly would any doctor get a warm felicitation as it was witnessed at the Chinamaya Heritage Centre, where a mass gathering of eminent personalities from various walks of life assembled to convey their good wishes to the doctor.'
Calling him a multifaceted personality, he said Misra not only has touched the hearts of several people physically but also touched the heart of many by his warmth and loving nature. He is a large hearted person, who has lived a simple life and totally done his work with sincerity and commitment.
He opined that the State required such people whose service was needed to develop the State and better the quality of life there.

N Ram said Misra and his wife Arati Priti,also a doctor, represented the
noblest profession, especially in the wake of recent kidney racket and
other malpractices in medicine. Applauding their contribution to society,
he said the two had succeeded in pursuing excellence in the scientific
field and making modern medicine available to the underprivileged and poor
people of society.
