Chennai, Jan 31:
The Andhra Pradesh government has not officially done anything to start construction for a check dam across river Palar. Senior officials of the Tamilnadu government after visiting the proposed site have revealed this, Public Works Minister Durai Murugan today said in an official release here.
Joining issue with AIADMK general secretary J Jayalithaa for her statement on Palar check dam issue, Durai Murugan said soon after the DMK took office, a Ministerial delegation visited Hyderabad and obtained an assurance from the neighbouring State that 'if anything was done as regards Palar, it would only be after concurring with Tamilnadu.'
'When the media reported the moves to have a check dam contrary to assurances, I wrote to the Irrigation Minister of Andhra Pradesh,' the Minister said and added that the State Chief Secretary was in touch with Andhra Pradesh government over the issue.
Besides all this, officials of the Public Works Department visited the proposed site and have made it clear that there was no official move to construct a check dam, he said.
'Chief Minister M Karunanidhi is keen on finding amicable solution to problems without disturbing inter-state relations,' Durai Murugan said and refuted the allegations of the former Chief Minister that the government had failed to prevent a dam across Palar.
