Will Arul Jothi street ever improve?

NT Bureau
Chennai, Jan 29:

THUNDERSTRUCK?: Arul Jothi Street, Madipakkam, has neither grace
(Arul) nor illumination (jothi) as the name suggests.

Arul Jothi Street, Madipakkam is horrible. Already a battered road became worse after the last November rains. It is not motorable, not fit for cyclists, let alone walkable.

It is a school zone, which is used daily by thousands of children of Prince School, Rajkumar-Sulochana Matriculation School, Sai School etc. is in very bad shape.

On rainy days the woes faced by the locals need not be narrated. It can just be imagined. S Rajkumar, correspondent of the Rajkumar-Sulochana Matriculation School had already petitioned the authorities of the road condition and the open ground next to his school which was being used as dumping yard. But all this fell on deaf ears.

Right from Madipakkam Koot Road the interior cross roads as this road and Kannagi Street are much in the wanting, according to Rajasekar of Jothiramalingam Street. That apart in the absence of drainage sewage is let onto the streets. Septic tanks should be within their compounds. All rules are flouted.

This area comes under Ullagaram-Puzhudhiwakkam municipality. Its president P A Jayachandran recently announced at the 20th anniversary of the Sheela Nagar Sadasiva Nagar (North) Residents Association held recently that drainage and drinking water connection work would be initiated from 2007. On roads improvement there was no mention. When reporters tried to contact him he could not be reached.

A former president Pon Jagadeesan told News Today that the government was keen on ensuring that local bodies should carry out all the development works without hindrance in a time bound manner.

And on roads, he said that roads which have not been blacktopped would be tarred soon.
