Winners of eco contest announced

        The winners of the grand finals of 'Eco-Petition', a competition on environmental issues for school children that as held in Chennai on 27 January, have been announced.

        Sauptik Ghosh, Class-X, South Point High School, Kolkata, won the first prize, B Kanimozhi, Std XI, Alpha Matriculation Higher Secondary School, Chennai, won the second prize and Ikfath Azima, Class X, Azra Public School, Hyderabad, won the third prize.

        The competition, organised by FMCG company Henkel India, is aimed at creating awareness for a cleaner and greener environment.

        Sixteen school students across five cities Chennai, Delhi, Hyderabad, Mumbai and Kolkata participated in the final competition and made an oral presentation on the topic 'My action plan for a better tomorrow'.

        The oral presentation was followed by a question and answer session. The students from the five cities competed via video conferencing.

        The participants were judged by Dr Deepa Varma, scientist,

        M S Swaminathan Research Foundation, and P Sudhakar, joint director, C P Ramaswamy Environmental Education Centre.

        The winners were selected based on the suggestions for a cleaner environment, their practicality and their understanding of the subject.
