Indian Bank claims McFerran Trophy

        Ramesh's consistency helped Indian Bank clinch the Don Bosco-Fr McFerran Trophy all-India football tournament at the DBYC ground (Red Hills) here yesterday.

        The tournament's top scorer had his say in the team's 3-0 win over Southern Railway in the final. Thoi Singh and Mike Chinedu struck earlier before Ramesh found the mark in injury time.

        Cash awards of Rs 25,000 and Rs 15,000 awaited the winners and runners-up.

        Rajesh (SDAT Don Bosco Wisdom Town), who had represented India in the under-14 festival at Iran was felicitated.

        C R Visswanathan, vice-president, All India Football Federation, was honoured with a citation and memento.

        Special prizes - Best goalkeeper: Min Bahadur (Army Green, Bangalore); Best defender: Amirtharaja (ICF, Chennai); Best midfielder: Stanley Coutinho (Goa U-21 XI); Best forward: Needhi (SCR, Secunderabad); Best up-coming player: Samson Fernandez (Don Bosco Oratory, Fatorda); Top-scorer: Ramesh (seven goals).

        Rev Fr. Stanislaus Swamikannu (SDB, Salesian Provincial) Chennai Province) presided over the function. Denis McFerran (Ireland) presided over the prize distribution function.
