Youths should be on the lookout for more job opportunities in the retail market sector, which is growing by leaps and bounds, said Chief Secretary of Tamilnadu Government L K Tripathy.
Speaking at an intercollegiate seminar on the challenges and opportunities in the retailing sector at Guru Shree Shantivijai Jain College for Women in Vepery recently, Tripathy said that in recent years the retail sector was getting more organised.
He also said that the percentage of oraginsed retail business in India was very less in comparison with that of foreign countries.
'In the present day scenario the main focus of students should be enhancing their soft skills, which is highly essential for them to stand out in the job market,' said Tripathy, adding that the youngsters should have a better understanding of the retail sector as most advertisements in the media targets the younger generation.
The seminar was organised in commemoration of the 150th year celebrations of the University of Madras and on the eve of 117th birth anniversary of Guru Shree Shantivijai.
Students from around 12 colleges made their presentations to a panel of judges, who had arrived from Sanghamithra Battacharya, Madras Indian Institute of Technology. G Rajendran from Anna University, G Sreenivasaprabhu from Sri Ramakrishna Mission Vivekananda College, Chennai, and P V Raghavan from the Institute for Technology and Management (ITM), Chennai, made an assessment on the presentation.
Students presented papers on how to restructure and reorganise the retail sector, its impact on consumerism, marketability of a product and employment generation in the retail industry.
