Sir,
As we ring out the old and ring in the new year (2007), let us rejoice for all the happenings in 2006. It starts with the good conduct certificate issued by Bush the global super power to Manmohan Singh. Second comes the famous nuke deal - a strategic deal formulated by the PM and his elite force. It does not matter whether the nation's sovereignty and integrity has been staked but that Bush's and Manmohan Singh's handshakes have fructified is what matters. Third comes the PM's famous address to the NDC - Muslims should be empowered and towards this 'they must have the first claim.'
It matters little the different interpretations his loud-mouthed Congress spokesmen/woman gave. But Manhohan Singh's specific emphasis was on the Muslims and the Muslims alone - he stands muted today on this because either he has to reaffirm what he said or withdraw what he uttered. Both ways he is a man of integrity we are told. So he hides under the shell of silence. The bell rings loud and clear - a clarion call to the people - for the UPA 'secular' government has made religion a yardstick for equitable distribution of development.
Last on the list but of significant importance is the bypass of Parliament by the UPA government. Thereby the UPA government has taken the first step towards making India a banana republic by stating that strategic deals signed with other powers need not be ratified by Parliament. The Constitution of India had been amended, bended, dented and rammed to suit the political class that now it is tired of the Constitution and wants to leave it alone in this case. Should we not rejoice for this sudden decision not to tamper with the Constitution?
