Flute, veena artistes to regale crowds

Chennai, Dec 28:

        Flautist Pandit Hariprasad Chaurasia and veena artiste Jayanthi Kumaresh are all set to enthrall audience this evening at Kamarajar Arangam here in a programme titled Jalsa.

        The Jalsa, classical ideas in harmony, is being organised by Indian Music Academy (IMA) in association with Idea Cellular. The artistes will perform Hindustani classical music. Following this, there will be an interactive music session in which the audience can put forth their questions on music to the performing artistes.

        Indian Music Academy is a brainchild of Durga Jasraj and Vikram Shankar and it is initiated by the 'Art and Artistes' organisation. The academy has planned 12 concert Jalsa series and the concert in Chennai is the eighth one.

        Speaking on the occasion, Durga Jasraj, daughter of vocalist Pandit Jasraj said, 'the aim of 'Jalsa series' is to protect, preserve and promote our traditional music'.

        Flautist Shashank said he was happy to be associated with the academy. 'The academy is all set to encourage young talent', he added.

        Veena artiste Jayanthi and managing trustee of Tarangini Arts foundation Suma Sudhindra were also present.

        The concert is free for all and interested persons can get the pass at the venue.
