        Former Chief Minister and AIADMK general secretary J Jayalalithaa has made a telephonic appealed to president of Trinamool Congress Mamata Banerjee to call off her 24- day fast over Singur issue.

        A statement here said Jayalalithaa had also sent a letter to Mamata Banerjee making the appeal. The letter was personally handed over to her by two MPs from the AIADMK.

        Moved by Jayalalithaa's gesture, Mamata thanked for her affection and replied that she would discuss the matter to end the fast with her party colleagues.
