That an action-hero who eats one full chicken and 10 eggs by himself a day can fight 10 people at one-go is a misconception. A balanced vegetarian diet can keep one fit, though many scoff at vegetarians.
It may be noted that medical data clearly shows that only a fraction of vegetarians are affected by heart attacks and cancer. And they generally outlive non-vegetarians by about six years, said film actor Madavan here yesterday.
Talking to presspersons while announcing the conduct of a two-day 'Mega Vegetarian Food Expo 2007' to be held at Rajah Muthiah Hall on 12 and 13 January by the Indian Vegetarian Congress (IVC) as part of its golden jubilee year, the actor said, 'vegetarians are least exposed to health problems that include coronary diseases and life- consuming diseases like cancer. The eating habits especially among the youngsters have changed, as many opt for fast and packaged food, in today's long, hectic work and lifestyle. Educating people on the benefits of vegetarian food is necessary and initiatives of IVC is appreciable, he said.
Speaking on the occasion,
president of IVC Tarachand Dugar said, ' the objective of this exposition
is to promote vegetarianism and to propagate the principles of natural
healthy way of life. Apart from this, exhibitors can explore and promote
new products, strengthen one's product positioning, increase the market
share and interact or exchange latest information on business and industry
trends. Around 1000 vegetarian delicacies are to be showcased in this food
exposition.
