Chennai, Dec 28:
A federation of Hindu organisations today appealed to Chief Minister M Karunanidhi to thwart 'a conspiracy of Dravidar Kazhagam, Periyar Dravidar Kazhagam and some other groups' to unleash terror at Srirangam on the eve of Vaikunda Ekadesi on 30 December and trigger violence throughout the State.
In a press release here, State Organising Secretary Vinayagar V Murali said the federation had 'reliable information' on the impending trouble at the temple town and said the government should take precautionary measures and prevent the 'premeditated violence.'
'Despite the timely warning
of Hindu organisations in 1998, the government failed to take action and
the Coimbatore blasts took a heavy toll and only then the government woke
up,' the statement said and urged the Chief Minister to act upon the appeal
of Hindu organisations and prevent untoward incidents at Srirangam where
the recent installation of a Periyar statue kicked up a controversy.
