Dam: 'DMK govt remains indolent'

NT Bureau
Villupuram, Dec 28:

Former AIADMK Minister Thalavai Sundaram has accused the DMK government of being 'indolent' in the Mullaiperiyar issue said the 'credit' for the Supreme Court judgment allowing the raising of the dam-level to 142 ft goes to former Chief Minister and AIADMK chief Jayalalithaa.

Addressing a public meeting organised here by the Villupuram north district unit of the AIADMK, the former Minister said the soon after the apex court ruling, the Kerala government brought a Bill barring the raising of dam height beyond 136 ft and prevented the raising of the dam's height.

The DMK government did not take any steps to resolve the issue, he said wondering whether the Ministerial-level talks could resolve the issue when the talks at the Chief Ministers-level failed.

He also cautioned that because of the 'careless attitude' of the DMK government in the issue, there is a 'likelihood of drought condition in southern districts.'
