A high-level meeting chaired by State Minister for Hindu Religious and Charitable Endowments
K R Periyakaruppan has decided to appoint more security personnel at temples and to fix alarm bells to Hundis in order to prevent thefts.
According to an official release yesterday, it was also decided to request the nearby police stations to increase patrol activities in the surrounding areas of the temples.
State Home Secretary S Malathi, Hindu Endowments Department Secretary Rajendran, Special Commissioner Pichandi and other higher officials took part in the meeting.

B K Vetri Selvan has taken charge as the Director for the Tamilnadu region in the Directorate of Field Publicity (DFP), a media unit under the Union Ministry of Information and Broadcasting.
According to a press release, Selvan is an officer of 1984 batch of the Indian Information Service (IIS). He was earlier serving as chief of Media at the Union Ministry of Health and Family Welfare, New Delhi.
Previously he had served as Director and Information Officer at Press Information Bureau, Chennai and as Joint Director (News), All India Radio (AIR), Guwahati.
Kabbadi matches on Pongal Day

The State government will conduct Kabbadi matches in all district headquarters in Tamilnadu on Pongal Day.
An official press release here yesterday said, following the instructions from Chief Minister M Karunanidhi, it was decided to hold Kabbadi matches throughout the State.
Selected teams of block level matches would participate in the district matches on Pongal Day. Later, State level matches for both men and women would be conducted in Madurai.
Rs 5 lakh for Dinesh Karthik

The State government has announced Rs five lakh cash reward for Dinesh Karthik, a member of the Indian cricket team which won the Twenty-20 World Cup.
An official release here yesterday said Chief Minister M Karunanidhi announced the reward for Karthik, who belongs to Tamilnadu.
Photography competition
