MSSRF to get Alcan prize

Chennai, Sept 27:

        M S Swaminathan Research Foundation (MSSRF), Chennai is one of three organisations from the country to have been shortlisted for the US $ 1 million Alcan Prize for Sustainability-2007.

        According to a press release, Alcan and International Business Leaders Forum (IBLF) has short listed 10 organisations, picked from over 155 entries from 53 countries.

        Alcan Prize was created to recognise outstanding contributions to the goal of economic, environmental and social sustainability by not-for-profit, non-governmental and civil society organisations around the world.

        The press release quoted IBLF, managing director Adrian Hodges as saying 'It is inspiring to see the extent of innovation and quality of creativity that these NGOs bring to their operations, practising and promoting sustainable development in urban as well as remote and impoverished areas of the world'

        The other organisations shortlisted are Kagad Kach Patra, Kashtakari Panchayat and Utthan Centre for Sustainable Development and Poverty Alleviation.
