Threat to CM's life condemned

Right from condemning the alleged remarks of former BJP MP Vedanti against Chief Minister M Karunanidhi to glorifying the heroes of all games without any discrimination echoed at the ordinary Corporation council meet held here today.

Floor opposition leader Saidai Ravi, who brought
out a resolution to protest against the remarks on the Chief Minister,
came down heavily for disrupting the Sethusamudram ship channel project
through instigating religious sentiments.
The resolution was immediately backed up by the councillors Jeyaraman (PMK), Prabhu (Viduthalai Chiruthaigal Katchi), Subramani (CPI), Devi (CPI(M)) and the DMK floor leader Ramalingam. Responding to this, Mayor M Subramanian, who registered the resolution at the Council as all parties condemned it, said that the remark of the former BJP MP Vedanti had hurt the Tamils. Subramani (CPI) sought for a resolution appreciating the Indian cricket team for clinching the Twenty20 world cup. |
The Mayor who interfered at this juncture, said that the council would praise all sportspersons who bring laurels to our country.
During the question-hour, Dunlop Ravi (DMK) questioned on alternative land to be given to Kuyilkuppam residents of New Washermanpet who were evicted by the railways.
Mayor replied that the Corporation was not able to have census due to the non-availability of data bases of the residents there. Hence steps would be taken to set it right only after getting details of the residents from the railway department.
When N Durairaj of MGR Kazhagam asked for a flyover project at Perambur, the Mayor responded that Anna University had taken up the work which would commence soon.
Later 18 resolutions were
passed at the council meet.
