'Physicians need to rediscover their ability and should be closer to patients so as to understand them while diagnosis, professor C N Deivanayagam has said.
He was speaking at the inauguration of two-day 'Lung Congress 2007' with the theme 'New Horizons in Pulmonary Medicine' organised by The American College of Chest Physicians of South India chapter and Tamilnadu chapter of the Indian Chest Society.
The professor said, 'As physicians, we need to broaden our vision further and move towards their goal.'
He said, 'instead of depending much on equipment and technologies, we need to approach the patients personally and get to know the condition of the disease'.
He added before 1946, the presence of tuberculosis was down as there was improvement on socioeconomic conditions, but, the situation has changed now and instead of importing new technologies one should try to innovate new technologies in this sector.
Preetha Reddy, managing director, Apollo Hospitals who was the chief guest on the occasion, said that the research in health sector is growing by heaps and bounds. Every day there is advent of new technologies, but, the diseases are also growing as the country is becoming more materialistic.
She also said the health sector was growing tremendously and referring to the two-day congress, she said such kinds of seminar were a boon to mankind and these kind of conferences should be conducted regularly.
Department of Respiratory Medicine, Apollo Hospitals, is hosting the event and Dr Rajan Santosham, regent, The American College of Chest Physicians of South India chapter, and members of Tamilnadu chapter of the Indian Chest Society, were also present on the occasion.

include post graduates, physicians and pulmonologists.
