PMK to move HC on sand mining

        PMK will soon file a case in the Madras High Court against the illegal sand mining taking place across the State, said A Tamilarasu, PMK MLA from Omalur.

        Speaking to mediapersons here today, he said a team led by MLA Elavazhagan from Arcot constituency, A Tamilarasu Omalur, and Y Kaveri, Edappadi had gone to the places where illegal sand mining were on. Despite a series of demonstrations across the State by PMK, there had been no impact. and the situation had grown worse.

        Taking a dig at PWD Minister Durai Murugan, the MLAs said that the Minister failed to take any action. 'We met him and presented a petition and he assured to take necessary action.'

        They also produced photo evidences and footages of the illegal sand mining on Thamaraparani and Palar river bed.

        Alleging various irregularities, they said they were digging up sand beyond the stipulated three feet by using heavy equipment and taking advantage of non-availability of PWD officials, causing huge revenue loss to the government.

        The large-scale exploitation is causing serious ecological problems to the villages, they complained.
