Chennai, Aug 27:

New technologies like lime belt analysers and high efficiency seperators have helped in having increased output besides improving the cement quality. Speaking at Dr B Jagannadhaswamy Memorial Endowment Lecture held at A C College of Technology, Anna University, Sabaratnam, CEO, India Cements Ltd said more emphasis should be given for quality and there should be no compromise as such. However, several cement manufacturing units are now giving thrust for Total Quality Management . Even some of them have obtained ISO certification.

And Union government too has come out with sops to industries for quality management and increased productivity.

In this scenario, Research and Development (R&D) wing of companies should also take the initiative to help in overall growth and development. To fight the stiff competition, R&D should lay stress on quality, modernisation and expansion. The role of R&D is vital, wHether it is used for cost reduction or for environmental.

The endowment lecture was organised by Chennai Regional Centre of Indian Institute of Chemical Engineers (IICHE). B Jagannadhaswamy Memorial Award for the Best student in Chemical Reaction Engineering was awarded to E John Rajadayakaran.
