Poongothai Aladi Aruna, Minister for Social Welfare. Priya Raju, director of
Cognizant Technologies Ltd, P Ravi, co-chairman of Valliammal Society, and
Dr V K Pandey, principal of Valliammal Engineering College, are also present.

'It's heartening to know that many girls are ready to take up technical education these days,' said Poongothai Aladi Aruna, State Minister for Social Welfare.

She was addressing a gathering at the College Day celebration of Valliammal Engineering College on its premises recently.

The Minister also said that nearly 20 years ago, many parents and even girls were reluctant to take up engineering course under the pretext that it was not meant for women.

She was happy to note that software technology had revolutionised the field of engineering and empowered women financially. She urged young girls to take up aeronautics, mechanical and civil engineering which were once considered to be a male domain.

Poongothai said that balancing between home and work for women was not that easy, however that balancing could be achieved through good time management and planning which in turn would bring a positive change in society. As women were adapting to these new changes it was imperative that the young need to empathise, work in tandem with the new self-empowered women to bring about a better tomorrow, she added.

Later P Ravi, co-chairman of SRM Valliammal Society, received the ISO certification from Poongothai. The Minister also gave away the best outgoing student award to K Jothi of Electronics and Communication Department.

Priya Raju, director, Cognizant Technologies Ltd, and Dr V K Pandey principal of Valliammal Engineering College, were also present on the occasion.
