        State Chief Electoral Officer Naresh Gupta has announced the release of draft electoral rolls for all Assembly constituencies in the State except for those in Chennai, Villupuram and Madurai districts. Also, two constituencies - Villivakkam and Tiruvottiyur in Tiruvallur district were left out.

        In a statement here yesterday, Gupta said the draft roll for constituencies in Chennai district, besides Villivakkam and Tiruvottiyur, will be published on 10 June. For the constituencies of Madurai and Villupuram, the roll will be released on 4 June, he added.

        Gupta said the Election Commission of India has announced the schedule for by-election to fill the vacancy in the Tamilnadu Assembly from Madurai West arising due to the death of the sitting member S V Shanmugam.

        The by-election will be held on 26 June. The notification will be issued on 1 June and the last date for making nominations is 8 June. Scrutiny of nominations will be held on 9 June and last date for withdrawal of candidature is 11 June.

        The counting of votes will take place on 29 June. The model code of conduct has come into force in the entire district of Madurai from yesterday, the Chief Electoral Officer said.
